What saltwater are u guys using?

Almost all of the salt water sold in dade and s. broward are collected in Hallouver cut. Incoming tide.

This is what I've been told by the guys delivering saltwater to the LFS. I used to use natural seawater until I learned of the benefits of making your own (if you filter your own RO/DI) I switched to Instant Ocean, premixed from an LFS, and immediately saw great results. (I won't name them since I love their store, but in this one respect they screwed up 3 separate times) They gave me water with dangerously low salinity (filled the holding tank with RO, and forgot to add the salt) I didn't check the salt the first time, and almost nuked my beautiful 18 gallon tank. I was buying 15 gallons of RO and 5 gallons of salt for water changes per week, and after the 3rd time getting screwed, I set up my own RO filter, and began mixing my own water. Never looked back.

Big als did that to me. 1.017

I went back to them and they said they wont guarantee the salt level.

Yea most of the LFS will UV, strain, and let the water sit in the dark for a week or so when they send out giant ships a few miles offshore to get NSW. I've had no problems with my NSW from the LFS up in boca.
If the supplier does actually do that, then to me,that really takes away the point in using natural sea water in the first place. Also,I just don't like the idea of playing "roulette" with my tank water,in that you don't know what you will get one week from the next.I've used Instant Ocean with my Ro/DI unit for about 10 years now & feel comfortable knowing what I"m adding will be consistant. Also most synthetic salts have higher readings of macro & trace elements than NSW.

I dose for my additional trace elements, so don't necessarily need those that come in the synthetic salt. The benefit of sea water there is that it also has the small things you can't see like phytoplankton and there may be alot more that we don't even know about. I'm okay using this sea water because I trust the store. If you have a relationship with the store, ask them about where they get the water, how much they turn it over (how fresh it is), etc. etc. If they're hesitant to give you answers, then I wouldn't trust them considering the risk.
