Hey guys I have friend setting up a 250 gallon tank wanting to put mainly sharks in there...what would be good options with breeds and numbers of inhabitants not too over-crowd even though its a 250.
Thanks

IMO unless the tank is 3' wide I wouldn't suggest a shark. even the smallest shark will get around 3' long and they will need the room to turn around.

after doing a bit of research i am finding out the tank may be a bit small for any of the sharks, unfortunetly I am not sure I can talk my friend out of this......I have a feeling It will be very tight quarters for them not so far in the future.......
Thanx

I second the coral cat, get your friend to research them first before he goes on an impulse buy. make sure the tank is COMPLETELY ready as well.

Definitely a Coral Cat. And if "he" can afford it, tell "him" to look into the Freycinet's Epaulette Sharks. Both reach about 26" in length, if that. Only get one shark for that tank.

Also, avoid any Angels, Puffers, Triggers, Butterflies, and Lionfish when keeping sharks.

Your "friend" is going to invest $$$$ in keeping sharks and is not doing the research himself?? he is the one that is going to maintain it right?

May I suggest the following livestock:
Sharks!

I have him atalked into a larger tank now 500 gallons or so he hasnt figured out the dimensions yet It will custom built for him. I now have to address filtration for him he currently has 3 other tanks up to 220 gallons and hasn't bed the most succesful with them keep his fish alive. He has the LFS take care of his tanks and probably not doing a good job. I haven't seen his tanks so I am not even sure if he filtration or maintanance issues. With the amount of money he has he should learn a bunch more about his hobby. Ill keep you guys posted ........again thanx

If he can't keep normal fish alive, he'll have a hell of a time keeping a shark alive. I highly suggest you get him to join here so he can learn directly from the experts. That or tell him to do his own research.

I have had some success with the coral cats myself, but he needs to be very aware (other than the size of tank) but also with its tank mates. I have lost two coral cats due to angelfish attacks.

I have been trying to get him to join RC for some time now I am doing this for him to try to get him to make the right decisions with equiptment and livestock. Some people think they can get away doing certain things cheaply but not this hobby and tank sizes he wants. Just for the record this is a friend of a relative if it was one of my friends they would be listening to me more. I can only make recomdations with this person and hope they listen. Hopefully they will pull away from the LFS that is currently taking care of his tanks with not so great luck keeping all his current tanks healthy.
