I have a Sealife Systems AquaPro 75 Wet/Dry.
I only hear bad things about wet/dry filters and was wondering
if there are any conversions or modifications I can make with this to make it better.

My setup is 2 20 gallon long tanks which flow in serial into the "sump", through an in-sump skimmer, and pumped back into the first tank with a Maxi-Jet 1200.

I would ideally like to use bio-ball chamber for other filtration. One idea I had was to put mangroves (I have plenty) in there and leave the lid off. I would gradually raise the water level mangroves as the roots grew but would eventually hit the sump's level (considering power outages etc.)

Any else converted their wet/dry to something better?

Here's my filter:

(but I use drilled hold overflows instead)

i only use wet dry filter without the balls they allow water and air contact which sumps do not i use a filter pad and filter media thats it

i took all the bio balls out and just used that section as a chemical tray but it was a huge waste of precious sump space.

personally i would try to sell the wet/dry and just get a standard tank to replace it. then you can set it up as you wish.

yes i uses the trays i went to walmart they have a long rubermaid container for 15 dollers i have room for skimmer and heater and dip trays
