What should I do?

I'm trying to figure out what to do with th corals and stuff I've got right now, I have a nanocube that had an outbreak of weird red hair algae, for the past two months or so I've had an urchin in there to try and get rid of the algae (it's helped a bunch, but there's still some algae remaining). There are a bunch of corals still on the rocks, but because of the algae I couldn't frag them to save them. The tank has been sitting there with occasional topoffs and I remember to turn the light on 2-3 days in a week. I really don't know what to do with everything in the tank, I am planning on setting up a small tank in November but I'm not moving ANYTHING from this tank into the new one. There are many good looking zoas and shrooms and polyps, but Idk if I would be able to sell it. It's definately salvageable, but pretty much only with a ton of herbivores (tangs and whatnot) and you'd have to be willing to frag the zoas and stuff off the rocks. Would anyone be interested in the livestock (all the rocks, corals, and probably a nassie or two, excluding the urchin)? Or does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can do with this? I can't just let it sit there forever...

were you ever able to ID what type of red algae it is?

I've seen lots of posts about weird red algae where Turbos eat the stuff. Have you tried some Turbo snails yet?

I used to have one but it really didn't eat anything...

I never really got a straight answer from people about it however most people just assumed it was normal algae. Personally I don't know if it's algae or not, I think it might be some kind of hydroid, but I have no clue. The urchin has definately cut back at it though, and I'm really curious as to whether or not some fish might go at it.

everythings doing good to! lost some of the small gorgs in transsite :( nothing big thou they are all still THRIVING and growing like crazy but all is well u gotta see how big the toadstool got! also do i get first dibs lol

You could always try the basic stuff. Like get some ro di water from a store and try a major water change. I had major agle problems when I lived at the University at Buffalo. I moved to Cheektowaga and I didn't have any problems after that.

You can also try putting in some new bulbs and ofcourse keeping everything stable like temps

I'd like to do that, but right now I'm in a situation where I just need to let go of it... I've already put enough money into it and it didn't get any better :)

I'm glad the toadstool finally started growing, it had stayed the same size the entire time I had it. Thanks for letting me know (I'm trying to start getting equipment together for the new tank soon!)

Sorry but I'm guessing pics will have to wait till tomorrow. I'm loaded up with homework and I'm busy the rest of the night. I'm not really sure what to ask for, since there are a ton of nice zoas on the rocks (eagle eyes, fire n ice, small blue/grey/purple palys, etc) as well as a few other corals (the stalks of some gorgs and a toadstool leather have started growing after fragging them). I think there's about 15# of rock too. If possible, I would really appreciate it if whoever takes this stuff could give me a couple frags of the zoas in the future too, if they do well.

You need more than one! Try 5 or 6, then you can determine whether they work or not ;)

matt bring um over lol ill hold them for ya! or u can bring htem here and then just grab a whole slew of frags when ur ready to start ur new tank!

If you want the stuff, then I guess that would work. I'm pretty sure with all the fish youve got the rocks will be clean in no time lol... I'll pm you tomorrow
