What should I expect to pay?

I have a 7.5mm fisheye nikkor from the late 60's early 70's, and some of the internal lenses have some mold growing on them. Im not sure if I should just sell the lense as is, or pay to have Nikon open it up and give it a cleaning. What would the general cost be of something like this, and is it even worth doing for anyone other than a collector?

At least with Canon, I've never seen a service cost less than ~$125.

There are a ton of local camera stores in your part of the world. Take it to someone in your area (i.e. B&H Photo/Video) they should be able to give you an estimate and help you decide if it's worth the trouble.

I never ever ever use it as I don't have a camera with mirror lock, so Im seriously considering selling it. Im wondering if I spend $400-500 repairing it, if I would be able to sell it for that much more or not. I also may just hold on to it for another 10 years and see if I can ever find a reasonably priced F2 to use it with.

Fill up a service request form at NikonUSA website and either send it in to Melville or El Segundo facility. They will give you an estimate up front, but I'm not really sure how much as it will depend on the severity of the problem. Just pray that it will not need any replacement part because that lens has been discontinued for decades.

As for servicing, some cheaper alternatives are KEH ( www.keh.com ) and APS ( www.nikoncamerarepair.com ) These are both highly regarded facilities, but I have never tried them myself.

My personal recommendation is I would call these places and ask for an estimate... if it's above $300 I would just sell it off on eBay as-is and avoid the hassle. I'm not sure how much the 7.5 will fetch these days as I'm not a Nikkor collector. You'd have to ask in the Nikon-specific forums for that. good luck

This paperweight is on my desk in my shop.
