Im starting a 22g tank with some sps/lps corals. What does it take to keep sea horses? What kind of flow, corals, water condtion, temp, things like that should I know. I know people in the past that had some but cant keep them alive. Whats the secret? Thanks in advance

Good water quality. Depending on the type of ponies to keep their temp good. For erectus and reidi 72-74 deg. F.
Most of the sps are not good for seahorses and anything that has sweepers is not good.
In my 20 tall I have an aquaclear filter with 2 powersweeps in it.

thanks. I didnt know I had to keep the temp that low and I didnt know about the sweepers....I guess that changes everything since I want to keep coral also its a good thing because I wouldnt want any animals to die. Thanks for the help

29/30g tank is the minimum recommendation for a pair of seahorses.
20/22g is tight even for a pair of small fuscus.

I have had my 2 pair of breeding ORA horses in a 30g for over 8 months, with multiple spawning times. The temp is steady at 77, and they are housed alone with a super cleanup crew. I have had a mandarin goby with them for a while, but I recently sold him. I run a HOB protein skimmer and HOB filter. They do their "dance" every morning before feeding time. My goal NOW is to get at least one pony to live for more than 6 weeks :-(

Seahorses are often kept w/ soft corals w/ no problems. In fact, its some of the hard corals that are piscivores and have strong stings that can really harm a seahorse.
