what size sump for a 280?

I have a new 280 gal. Miracles tank awaiting it's place in my new home that is under construction. What capacity sump do you suggest? I will probably get a basic acrylic tank that I can customize myself.

Thanks

are you going closed loop?
are you going powerheads?
how much space do you have?
what are trying to grow?
what is your bio load?
what are your goals?

Tank will not be closed loop. Two Tunze 6100s on multi-controller with possible addition of a wavebox later. Then of course my returns(have not decided on what pump or flow rate through the sump yet).

I have most of the footprint under the tank to use. That is to say I have approx. 72X24X26H to work with. I am thinking of 48X24X13H.

I will be moving into SPS with a medium bio-load.

Thanks for the unput.

For my 280 I use a 40 gal breeder as a sump.
But my skimmer and cal reactor are external as is the fuge.
the biggest point is to make sure it can hold the water out of the pipes in case of a power outage.

I have an 80 gallon custom in my stand, my tank is 220 gal. As others have said, the more water the better.

Thank you for all the feed back. I think I will do at least a 4' sump with 24" width. Height will be probably around 17" for a capacity of 85 gallons less the needed volume for shut down.

I am planning an external skimmer and return pump so hopefully that should allow me enough space. I have not yet decided on a refugium area. I run a small one in my current sump on my 130 gal.

Any opinions on the refugium, skimmer(I could go longer than 4' and do an internal skimmer), return pump and sump flow will be greatly appreciated. I will try to post some pictures soon (just need to figure out how).
