I don't think Reeflo pumps do very well with beckett-injected skimmers. To make them purr, you really need a good Iwaki or Panworld pump.

I used Reeflo, Buleline, and Iwaki on Becketts. On the 4848 - the only pump that would drive it really well was the Hammerhead. It also is the pump recommended by MRC for it.

With single Becketts, 4 foot tal x 8 in. diam, the Iwaki 100 was great.
I have a MRC3 currently that works best with an Iwaki 70.

Well, talked with GEO for a bit and he has good things to say about Reeflo pumps on his skimmers. I might be trying another big beckett with a Reeflo just to compare:)

I am using a MR skimmer on the 400 I take care of. Complaints: It is quite noisy. To get the finest bubbles you just barely crack open the air valve and this makes the beckett injector rattle. Couple that with the large external pump and you get a setup that does indeed work very well but I would not want it in my living room.

Would you mind sharing some opinions, comments, and recommendations with the rest of us.

Besides GEO is DA MAN, what more could you possibly need to know:D???

Seriously, what would you like my opinion on?

I have no Beckett experience, and i know (have learned) that becketts work better with pressure pumps, and reeflo pumps seem to be more flow based.

I would like to know what Geo said to you about reeflo pumps. (i have a dart thats been running 24/7 for 1.5 years with no problems and love how quiet it is)
what he said in reguards to having you switch back to a pure beckett skimmer verses the beckett recirc needle wheel combo? (are you looking at a recirc beckett design or whats up in the air for thought?)

I have no GEO products... but have never heard anything negative so thats deff a plus!

Dave- I think you will be amazed at the difference the Reeflo (- I am assuming Hammerhead- ) will make in the quantity of foam you make. The Hammerhead is probably the best "value" in that it produces the best gal= watt ratio.
The only downside is the noise. They can produce a "thrumming" sound if put on wood, or touching structural members of the house. I have recently "trapeezed" a Hammerhead, suspending it in the air. Problem solved - but kind of goofy looking - I am sure there are other ways to suspend it, but wanted to experiment a bit.

I still like the new SRO 5000 External...But - you know that:lol2:!

Chris,
I have waited so long to see someone with a MRC Reeflo.

Also, is that blueline pump for your washdown!! OMG!

Chris,
I have waited so long so find someone with a MRC Reeflo. How do you like it, and how does it compare to other skimmers that you have had? (and what other skimmers have you had)

Also, Is that Blue-Line pump used for your wash down?? OMG!!

You cannot beat GEO products for quality and functionally and the customer service is the best. They don't make skimmers anymore except for custom orders and you can get whatever you want for a better than off the shelf price. Rokel did a side by side comparison with a Geo needlewheel and a Geo beckett on the same tank running at the same time and compaired the skimmate for volume and density. The beckett skimmate was darker and also had more volume than the needlewheel.

Sure - Leo used to make good skimmers, and they are built like a tank ( have used various Becketts for years) *but* - technology has out grown Becketts. The Beckett skimmer designs go back some ~ 20 years or so.....

They require an Iwaki 70-100, or comparable ( which can be approx. 3.5 amps) vs a current needlewheel design - such as the Super Reef Octopus 5000External I have switched to - use only 100 watts, including the feed pump!

Additionally, Becketts are un-avoidably noisy, and cannot make bubbles as small as current needle wheel/mesh/pin wheel designs.

And - the SRO Octopus kicks the snot out constantly!

Welp, if you want cheap, I know someone in Paramus New Jersey that has a lime green carpet (It often touches the front and back of the 18" tank) and a breeding pair of true Amphiprion sabe clowns in a 110 gallon tank with an air stone skimmer for the past 18 years.

I realize forums like RC are very much about "the new" but just because something is new doesn't automatically mean it's better.

If you read my original post again you'll notice I'm running the MTC quad venturi counter current, recirculating power pro skimmer not a beckett. I wouldn't trade this MTC skimmer for any other. We aren't talking "nano" here and although the beckett type skimmer may ultimately have more throughput (depending on the pump used) I can process lots of seawater with my skimmer as well and in my opinion scrub it better than the beckett or the skimmer you mentioned.

Before even setting up my MRC MR6R the plans have changed. I still cannot vote however since the one I changed my mind FROM and the one I changed my mind TO are not on the list. The new skimmer is currently being produced and will be ready in about 8 weeks. (HAND MADE IN THE U.SofA!!!) I-Tech Beast!

I just upgraded from a dual beckett skimmer a couple months ago to an ATB. They both skim well there is no question about that. The one thing that sets the "new" and "old" technology apart in my mind is maintenance. This ATB does an AWESOME job and I don't have to mess around with it at all. Once it broke in there was very little maintenance and no adjustments. The MRC I had took awhile to initially dial in and then a pretty hands on maintenance schedule to keep it running optimally, although the skimmer itself was very impressive.

I run a Pm Bullet xl1 skimmer on my 220. I have 2 other skimmers running all needle wheel and I will say that I had a needle wheel on the 220 and since I have put the beckett pm skimmer on my tank its cleaned up nicelly. I have a 92 gallon with a way over rated needle wheel skimmer on it and its simple and easy but is not impressive its ease of use is easy sure its power stering but doesent mean the car turns better. Anyway Just putting my .02 on my skimmers smalles skimmer in my house is a redline pm skimmer I have a euro reef skimmer and then also a reef octopus. I think the diversity speak I see a handful of types and am most happy with my beckett.
