What Snail Type is this

Was on the beach this morning looking for hermits that were bound to be washed up, any way the surf was too much i could see them but could not get near... moonson season ha ha.

Anyway as mentioned i went to a wedding the other day, and the wife forgot the air con and we were both away rougly 2 days, and well the tank went up to 35 degrees and i now have green algae (back at 26-29).

And as the LFS here opens when he wants and never informs anyone i thought shod it, ill grab some snails from the beach (reef).

Many thanks, interested to know will they get my algae issue under control, as i took four but will get a load more at low tide...

saying that today i see my sea hare for the first time in two weeks ha ha, lazy bastard has done no cleaning that i can see...

without seeing the other side of the shell it looks like a species of nerite snail, and when they do get the algae issue under control consider returning some of them to the surf as after they run out of food they'll die and further fuel the algae fire while they're decomposing.

Ok, cool, yes ill just lob them out of the window back in to the sea and collect if it outbreaks again Thanks, seems to be my guys.... though they were insistent on sitting above the waterline strangely...

Nerites easily survive out of water for some time. I went open top with nerites in my tank and have found several out of the water crawling on the outside of the tank, on the wall and on the floor several times. I just make sure to check where I am stepping every morning when I get up. None of them were worse for wear. Just kept trekking around.

If it's Indo-Pacific, it's Nerita albicilla. It might or might not stay in your tank. That species likes the area right where the waves splash, although they do spend some time submerged.

Ive had nerites live a couple days out of water (suicidal). Make sure you have a lide for them. They like to walk outside the tank.

That's a problem with the intertidal snails.
If you find them on rocks above the water line, you will find them above the water line in your tank from time to time.

Yes, well i grabbed a few others today also some red/blue hermits (unfortunately the reef took my iPhone as must have fallen out of my pocket ) but now have about 20 in there and 3 more hermits, seem to be moving around now, yes i guess they are tidal accustomed as the lower reef (direct off the sand) out 20 mtrs to low tide mark is where they come from, as mentioned in another post, mass bleaching here due to the hot water, did not see one coral today, so they must all be dead, hopefully return over the monsoon season for summer (Oct/Nov/Dec) in to the tidal swath, but all thats out there today is LR, Mantis (beautiful ones), Fish in the pools/blennies and crabs/hermits/snails.

A real shame as means with the LFS likely closing down, i'll have to scout more locations or chance taking the yacht out during the season, to find other interesting creatures.
