what sps's are best with..........

Hello

I know everybody has their own opinions about SPS coral, and T5 lighting. I have a Tek 6X54 fixture and wonder what corals, namely sps's thrive with this type of lights? I was told that to have monti's I need MH's, but I also hear others say not so. Which is true? I want to get a frag of Pokerstar and Superman monti, but was told they wouldn't thrive, live. My parameters aren't always the best, but I do maintain a good calcium count and my flow is is good. Would they, monti's, caps, or any SPS live/thrive in my tank?

I'd try a montipora or pocillopra and see what happens. I think they'll do ok, you'll most likely just get slower growth

Ok, I have the Tek 6X54 T5 fixture. I get great growth, great colors. Even at the bottom. I have torts, millis, pocis, montis, everything....The T5s will not be your problem. Stability will be. You need to keep your parameters in check to keep SPS. Give some montis a try and see what happens.

There are lots of T5 tanks with SPS everywhere..... it can be done no doubt.

And for the record I've seen MH tanks that can not keep an acro for the life of them. The actual equipment you use, be it T5 or MH must be of good quality....once you have good quality T5 or MH lighting you must look at all other things to succeed like flow and stability and chemistry and nutrients....etc.

Thanks everyone,

I decided to give it a shot. I know that others are using T5'S to light their tanks, I have more par than some of them. And from the looks of their tanks, they're doing well. I guess it's really about water quality with SPS's. I don't have the best water quality, but I know others that have far worst water quality than me and yet, caps, montis, and the like are thriving in their tanks. If they can, why can't I. I know I will be adding a sump soon, and more water movement, Tunze nano's ( I have sand and don't want it all over the place). If it doesn't work out, nothing ventured, nothing gained right.

Again, thanks for the opinions and views and above all your time replying. Happy reefing
