What store in the area has the most fish and the healthy fish right now?

IMO, Aquatic Collection in Hayward has the best quality and selection of saltwater fish in the Bay Area. All of my fish have come from there with the exception of one which I got from Cal Reef Co.

the word "healthy"

the word "healthy"

Well, did you see the word "healthy?" King Aquarium's fish got all wiped out three weeks ago. I suspect Marine velvet. I'm not worried about Ich (it's a piece of cake with TTM, but I'm truly fearful of the marine velvet. BTW I buy fish from King Aquarium because of their price, and also because I'm not afraid or worried about ich. I always do tank transfer method no matter where I get my fish from(all sources that deal with wild caught have the probability of having ich, some sources that deal only with captive bred can be safe). But my biggest fear is marine Velvet. Yes, they took all the fish from all of their tanks (except for their display), sterilized it, and then started all the tanks with new batches of fish. Yes it was that bad.

Keith's coral and Neptune all have Ich on some fishes, but nothing to be worried about, it is very easy to remove the ich through tank transfer. I'm convinced 100% that all LFS has ICH. If someone starts a new fish store that does TTM for all of their incoming fish then that store can get real famous, and it can become a super success. One day one may start a store with that sort of theme/philosophy, and until then we buyers are responsible for dealing with the ich problem. I'm sure Aquatic collection has ich on some fish as well. It is impossible to maintain a fish store without letting in the incoming iched fish.

I think it is the buyers responsibility to remove the ich from the fish, and I Prefer TTM over copper. My biggest fear is Marine velvet though.

For fish, i like King Aquarium in South SJ

It is basically impossible for ANY LFS to have ich free tanks/fish. If you are going through that many fish every week you are guaranteed to have ich or some other parasites/diseases. Even with TTM it is not guaranteed that the fish will be ich free.

With a well planned TTM you will have great success. Even after some minor cross contaminations, my success is 100% so far. I have done 15 batches of TTM so far (very labor intensive process) and had success every single time. Seems like it is very hard/impossible for trophonts to cling on to fish's body more than 7 days. every single time they fell off for me resulting in 100% success.
I mean zero failures. Yes I agree with you on this:
"It is basically impossible for ANY LFS to have ich free tanks/fish. If you are going through that many fish every week you are guaranteed to have ich or some other parasites/diseases."

you wait and see, there will be a trend setter store that will start doing TTM for all fish and it will take off. They may even guarantee ich free fish. well, so far no one has come up with such a concept but one day one might. I guess the fish stores don't have much interest in getting rid of ich. Why would they? what is the benefit for them. Keep in mind the fish stores have their own interests in these things and let's not discuss them. lol

Also, there are stores that try to keep fish in a reasonable condition, and there are some stores that keep the fish in tanks loaded with parasites all the time. Even if they get healthy fish from supplier, after the fish goes into that nasty tank it is going to go down fast.

Oh boy, here we go again. I'm not even going to get started on why TTM at a LFS doesn't make sense.

Anyway, Aquatic Collection's fish selection is huge now that they've had their larger fish system up and running for a while. They've also been getting some rare fish lately, so if you're into that, they're definitely worth checking out.

I was at Neptune a couple of weeks ago and they had quite a few fish as well. If you're looking for designer clowns, they had a lot.

I stop in a Aquatic Collection every time I'm in the Bay Area. They always seem to have some less common fish and great prices.

I'm not sure there's a market to support 100% QT'd fish. Look at divers den, that a psuedo QT/acclimation process and you pay 50-100% more than what we see at the LFS. I imagine a store doing a full blown 8 week TTM would be asking $300 for a yellow tang. :) Personally I'd rather save the money and put new additions through my own process I'm comfortable with.

i think if there was a store that did the TTM method for every shipment of fish they had, they would go broke and shutdown real fast...wasted time and money let alone a delay selling their fishes

I purchased some of my fishes from a guy in SJ...had him order what I wanted and picked it up right after they came in still in the bags. All of what I ordered are still alive and eating like pigs

I saw two big UV lights installed on the fish system at Aquatic Collection. I notice they have a $500 lighting maroon there and $180 gold nugget clownfish.

Just 12 days of TTM to make sure all trohphonts fall. That's all is needed as far as ich. Now you guys are saying, "doesn't make sense," one day after one opens a store with such a concept then we all will be going there. lol
It is like a martin luther king dream. "I have a dream!".
ok let me stop now. lol

agreed but

agreed but

Uv wont help against ich.

Agreed but it makes sense to have one in fish store. It delays the ich bloom by controlling the ich population. If the fish store can keep the fish alive until a unsuspecting customer comes and buys it, then they have succeeded. UV will do this trick.

Ich just buys some time, which is great for LFS.

A lot of fish from Aquatic collection got sold before 12 days is up (I live close by, so i check out the store often). They bring in a lot of fish every week. probably two shipments each week. You can't put all the fish in two giant tanks to do TTM. Even then, there will be multiple shipments of fish. If they want to do TTM for every fish they bring in, they would probably need 6 times more tanks they already have (2 fish systems, but many small divided tanks). Not to mention all the water change, sterilizing of equipments they need to do. Just pointing out something you may not be thinking of before suggesting TTM to LFS.

Agreed. If anyone starts a NEW store with that type of concept then it is not impossible. It is difficult, but when planned properly, it is not impossible.

No, not impossible. Just impractical from a retail/business standpoint.

Be prepared to spend 2-3 times more for a fish than a similar fish you can buy from a LFS that doesn't TTM/QT their incoming fish.

Would you (maddhugan) pay the premium? My guess your answer would be no.

Aquatic Collection

Aquatic Collection

Ok looks like AC is the place and just QT.

I was there today, and I should say they have an awesome collection. The price of the fish was lower than any other LFS I been to here in bayarea. Also the price of some fish were lower than the online stores.
I think the corals were somewhat overpriced (just my opinion), I would say overpriced than the Neptune aquatics. For corals, I don't think any LFS can beat Neptune Aquatics for the price and the quality. Same thing can be said about Aquatic collection for fish, no other LFS has a huge collection of fish as the Aquatic collection does. Also the price and the quality superior to any other store in bayarea I been to.
