What store is worth a road trip?

ARC and SWP def my first choices in buffalo. Everyone knows about them.

But if you know your info and don't need to ask any questions then pets plus in lockport is def worth a look, lots of exotic pets that just make it fun to go and look, and a big saltwater selection prob just as big as the others. good prices too.

you could go from ARC then hop on the 290 to colvin and go to SWP then head back on the 290 to the 990 to transit then up to main st in lockport and hit up pets plus. you could do it in a few hours.

From SWP, get on 31 and head east to get to PP if you really want to go for a look. Faster than heading 290 to 990 to Transit to 31. Agree PP is good for entertainment value but bring a sandwich... Service is as PP as their name implies.

Buying roc,syr, buf all have legit stores. Baltimore aquarium \ dc is long day but worth it. Or buf\roc reef store crawl is sure to have plenty to keep busy. Dr mac is sorta in no mans land. Ocean city is fairly close. Beach, wild horses, crabs.

I love ABC Reefs and ABC Reefs2 in Syracuse....best places to go, IMO. ARC in Buffalo is fantastic, just tough on the wallet sometimes, especially as a student. Have yet to hit up any of the other places in Buffalo, or any of the shops in Rochester. I'll have to make a road trip home once school slows down a bit, and make sure I stop in Rochester on the way.

Jesse and I are headed off to Maryland for a week long camping trip in June. Will be staying on Assateague Island. However, we're definitely planning on visiting at least Dr. Mac's, the Baltimore Aquarium, and multiple breweries, including Dogfish Head. If anyone has other suggestions for fish shops/aquariums/cool places to go, let us know. And of course, we'll share pictures/stories when we get back!

Gotta say though, we're pretty lucky in NY....we have many different quality reef shops, and each has some awesome features.

This is getting outdated but I gotta say we made the trip from Erie to Buffalo to stop at ARC on saturday and that store is FANTASTIC. Staff was busy but more than happy to answer questions even though I made it obvious I wouldn't be leaving with anything Saturday.

that's great to hear.

This thread will not be outdated. The reef stores in upstate NY have been among the best I've visited for over a decade.

+1 Gary. I have been to some hole in the walls, and I have been to some great stores. From what people in other states have told and shown me, this whole area is a hot spot... and I would not have it any other way. I know NYC has a couple nice places, yet I did not get a chance to check them out when I went there a couple months ago. It's also a 7 hour drive (one way) from WNY. Now THAT would be a road trip.
