What tang would you go with?

Ok, after reading 40+ pages of conflicting opinions, I would trust people I know.

I have a blue hippo and am looking for 1 other large fish. Will be with a foxface and some small fish. Any suggestions. It's a 120 but the bad thing is that it's a 4 ft. tank so the swimming room isn't quite the same.

Or, if you have any other suggestions that are NOT tangs, I'd be happy to listen. Trust me, my FAVORITE fish is a clown trigger. I think I should just get a school of them so they are all peaceful

Any suggestions of what will do well? Please remember the size of the tank

BTW- Clark, how are your sailfins doing? I hope well!

achilles tang.

but run ozone first

i cant believe that a guy who doesnt care what other people think, and buys the things that he likes is asking this question :)

you can get a trigger, just make sure you get something more dominant to keep it in it's place. :D

Well, from speaking with others who've had ones, very few had ones that left shrimp, snails, clams, starfish, etc... alone (however there were some)

What about hiring you to keep it in place. Wait, I've met you and I'm looking for something more dominant.

Hmmm, with the Hippo and the Foxface, I wouldn't add another larger fish...it will be too cramped. Most tanks will strive for equilibrium or homeostasis over time...that means that aggression, disease, water parameters, or some other unknown limiting factor will kick in and you will eventually lose fish until the system is at a state of balance.

I think housing fish that are more appropriate for that size tank would not only look more natural, but provide a proper environment for the fish in your care. Too often you see big fish squeezed into little tanks...the 120g tank is really not that big, IMO and you would be better off in the long run with smaller fish that do well in that size tank.

I would suggest blennies, gobies, pseudochromis or other small fish that would look natural for your setting.

Hands down my favorites are. The order in rankings changes from time to time but they all make the top 5.

1st Thompson's tang.
2nd Tomini tang
3rd Lavender tang.
4th Purple tang.
5th Atlantic Blue tang.

I would not sweat 2 tangs and a rabbitfish Justin.

Do your water changes on time and buy cautiously.

Tell Nook to go fill his tanks.

Thanks! That might be exactly what I needed because I couldn't really find another larger fish that I really liked. (except the clown trigger :mad2: )

What about another "medium" fish?

Would those be ok with the blue hippos?

homeostasis? Isn't that a dental disease?

wait a minute, that's halitosis.

I wasn't going to bite on your first girlfriend joke but this is the 2nd time you've mentioned her.

thompson's tang is definatly cool... but hard to find.

atlantic definatly gets to big for you tank.

Lavenders are freakiin awsome. especially if you get the one with orange dots on his face and the fork tail. awsome

medium fish = tomini tang

Well let's switch the topic. What OTHER fish would be a good fit with a foxface and blue hippo?

Please noone say a clown trigger as I might be prone to giving it a shot. IMO- Literally, the coolest fish out there!!!

fish arent really that cool... they mostly die eventually.

if it were me i would buy a nice coral colony for the 50-80$ you would spend on the fish

I somewhat agree. I would just like one other medium or so fish though. I was looking at a blue spot jawfish...Not medium but a cool fish
