I have posted a poll I was just going to get a 125 ,but now I think I want bigger. And should I get glass or acrylic? Has anyone used a 125 from petco with good results

if you can find it i would get a 155g bowfront, awesome size and 6'

i would never want anything bigger than that, but if youre in the 6' tank range and cant get a 155bf you can do a 180g

The 155 is a five foot tank I like it because I don't have too change lights. I like the 6 footers because I can keep a lot more types of tangs.

What are the footprints of these tanks? I always go for the fattest footprint for aquascaping purposes.

Glass vs acrylic
Glass all day long. I will never get another acrylic tank. It just scratches too damn easy. Sure, you can buff it out, but when are you ever going to do that? Glass is nearly impossible to scratch if you're even a somewhat careful person. Plus, you can use metal blades for removing coralline algae - try that with an acrylic tank

Ok well I'm going to get a standard 125 marienland tank from the drs. Thanks guys for the help. I have heard of acrylic scratching really easily so none of thay 125 it is.

you want it to be as deep from the face front to the wall as you can fit..go at least 24 ..and i am not a fan of acrilic for a reef tank..

125 is 72-18-20 I think

125 is 72x18X22. This was my original order. But F&S made a mistake and shipped me a 150 (72x18x27) LOL!! I'm not complaining. Both are nice sized tanks, both look impressive because of their 6 foot length.

Sure, a 24" depth would be better, but then by the same logic, a 36" would even be better than a 24". 18" depth is just fine. You can do a lot of good aquascaping with that. The size and equipment needed as well as maintenance requirements are also perfect for the intermediate to the advanced. Doing a moderate sized tank will leave more money for better support equipment and better maintenance, unlike if you stretched thin just to go bigger.

Now, if you really want to go crazy, go for the 220 gallon 6 footer or the 300 gallon deep dimension. YEAH!! One of these days I may just do it as an upgrade from my 150. Now, for those that keep saying go big or go home, or that bigger is better, I'd like to see if any one of you have either of these 2 tanks, or bigger! :D.

Hey dragon, try to get a 24" depth if you can.It is something I wish I had done.A 180g is 72"x24"x24".

You replied to me and I looked you up..... You said on the 14th you ordered a 125....?????

So you haven't ordered?

The skeletor eel was so small he slipped through the scene over my tank. I also just ordered a 125 rr tank and I'm going to keep two tangs and a few other fish in there. Thanks guys for the help.

A 155 bf is a six foot tank same dims as a 125 at the ends and same width as a 180 in the middle, so it's 18-24" wide 18" on the ends 24" in the middle. 72" long and 24-25" tall.

Its the tank i have and it's a nice mix between a 125 and 180

lol thanks, saves me a reply :)

Yeah sorry mis worded that. I'm also looking into getting a 150 dd cube and have all the rock in the middle so my tangs can swim around it.i know it's not ideal ,but it's a nices design and will fit in my basement a lot better. Plus I like the depth.

if i could i would go with the 6ft tank vs the cube due to swimming room, however the cube is very nice for reef, may just have to go with different fish

If you are going for a 6 footer get a 180. If you get something smaller in a 6 foot tank you will end up wishing you would have went for the 180. You will have better volume which will help with water stability, more surface area for gas exchange and more real estate so you don't have to have the entire tank stuffed with live rock leaving no free swimming area.

If you want to have a clear view get a standard tank. If you want a distorted view get a bowfront.

If you put tangs in a less than 6' wide tank the tang police will be knocking on your door. They will bring a gonad eating buttfish with them for your interrogation.

Haha yeah a 6 foot tank would eat the room up. I'm just going to get the 150 dd. it will have all the rocks in the middle and the tangs will have plenty of from to swim around. And if the tang police knock on my door with their buttfish I'll get my 5 pound attack schnauzer to eat them. The toy schnauzer is a very agressive animal best kept in tanks of at least 300 gallons or a large bath tub. It is a carnivor an needs to be fed 3 times daily. It is best to keep the single or in a. Mated pair.
