Can anyone tell from this picture? Looks like some kind of worm ball or something?

thepicture is to small to tell from clicking the thumbnail. It almost looks like the head of a feather duster. Can you post the high res pic and give us the link?

Sorry not sure how to post/link yet - but will look into it. I think you're right though - my FD hasn't been open since yesterday night, and this sure looks like his feathers. Just tested my water and it's at zero nitrates, other params are good. Did a 5% water change last week. Everybody else is happy. Why would he blow his top? Any chance he'll resettle? Thanks!

did he have one head or two? What are the other inhabitants in your tank?

If it is just the crown, they will shed that from time to time. It takes a few weeks usually for it to grow back. If it is the whole worm, then it is definitely not happy.
