I have these perfect purple/pink circles all over my glass. I'm guessing it's some sort of algae. I started getting them once I added more light.

Coralline. You're gonna need to clean your glass more often -- it's a lot easier to scrape it off when it's little.

If its a glass tank, your going to need a razor blade. Threatening.... no, it's a good sign that your calcium and alkalinity are in balance and your tank is maturing.

It's a good thing. You want it on your rock, not on your glass and equipment however. Where it grows, other algae generally won't. It's a sign of maturity in a tank. I hope you're a glass tank, because it's a lot easier to get off if you can use a razor blade.
As you chip it off and it flakes off into the tank, it will spread---which you actually want it to do---to your rocks.
You might check your magnesium levels: a bloom this extreme often goes with high magnesium. 1200 is a good mark.

Probably the number one question on the general RC forums is "how do I grow more coralline?"

You're good! Water conditions stable, nice high pH and good levels of Alk and CA -- this is what grows coralline algae. So keep it up.

You know when you see people's rocks covered with pink and purple? Same stuff.

ya i noticed it all over my rock as well... THe darn thing is that I have an acrylic tank so I have to scrape it off with my finger nail because I don't want to scratch the acrylic. Any suggestions besides a finger nail?

You can use the Kent Pro Scraper. No need for fingernail. Very easy to scrape off with this tool.

Red is for Acrylic, Yellow is for glass

You can get them online at marinedepot.com , drfostersmith.com, or any of the local fish stores near you like Tongs, Coral Oasis, Jeff's Exotic. etc.

These work way better than Credit cards.

Do those scraper things really work well? No scratch on the acrylic?

I have been using a algae scraper pad and a whole lot of elbow grease. It works O.K. and I skip the gym.

I have a friend who hates coraline and keeps his calcuim at 1000 to prevent it's growth, just sayin there's more than one way to get rid of it.

Yeah, Kent scraper, credit card -- I have noticed that a credit card lasts longer on scraping duty that the Kent scrapers. Of course, you replace the Kent scraper blades pretty easily.

A horrible idea. Don't try this at home, kids. At 1000 calcium -- which strongly doubt is accurate because it would be precipating out -- Alk is abysmally low. So corals can't grow and you slowly killing your fish with too high calcium.
