I woke up this morning and found one of my Derasa's in the wierdest shape......the left shell was broke in half right down the middle.....right side fully in tact and the front part of the left shell was fine.....but the whole back left side was gone....well it was laying beside the clam......I have never seen anything like this in all my time keeping tanks....has anyone ever seen this or heard of this......it was like something was trying to break it in 4ths.....needless to say clam is dead...I did find a nassuris snail inside of it but I am sure it is because the tissue was so exposed......wierd

Haven't heard any popping noises in the tank other than the other larger derasa when it closes that gets pretty loud from time to time but other than that nothing that I can think of that would cause that damage......never seen anything like it....have no idea where the mantis, if there is one in there, would have come from....haven't added anything except a couple of clams and some zoo's in the past 5 months or so.....have 6 clams total but 4 of them are pretty small and a 7 inch crocea and 6 inch derasa.......no other inverts but the norm 3 cleaner shrimp about 12 peppermint or so last i counted and snails and hermits...it looks like it tried to close really quick on something perhaps a snail and that part of the shell was weak and it snapped.....but I can't think of anything else...if there is a mantis which I can't imagine where in the world it came from how in the world am I going to locate it.....
