What the lowest cost router you would use to clean edges on acrylic?

For smoothing edges, a 2 or 3 flute carbide bit with a ball bearing guide is definitely the way to go unless you want to set up a router table with a fence. Personally I prefer to move the router rather than trying to hold a sheet of anything flat and snug to a fence unless you want to mess with infeed and outfeed tables and some other form of support to hold the sheet up. Most router tables are pretty shallow from the front to the bit.

So how do you assure that the edge is going to be straight if you are not using a fence/table?

The bearing part of the bit needs to ride against a straight edge - preferably something not metal - take a piece of scrap that has a finished edge and clamp that underneath the piece with the edge you want to finish. Don't forget to set the depth of the bit to where the cutter is only cutting the unfinished piece.

Save a few bucks and checkout tylertool.com

Bought several things from them and great prices/service

Don't forget to check out amazon.com too

They've got a PC693LRD 1-3/4Hp combo kit for $179 - not bad at all.

Is this a good deal? Ebay Dewalt

Haven't had the pleasure of using a DeWalt router yet, most of my cordless is DeWalt though and I like it. Amazon has the same kit (DW618B3) minus the "free" edge guide for $249 - don't know about shipping though.

Maybe someone else here knows about DeWalt routers and can give you an informed opinion.
