Here is one for ya. I have two 250 watt ballasts for my metal halide lights. When I plug one into the wall outlet, it trips my house alarm. The sensor it trips is one of my window sensors.

The ballasts are no where near a window or the adt control box. This only happens on one ballast. The other doesn't do it.

That's funny. The ballasts must hum at the right frequency for the window sensors to trip. And because it’s RF it can travel some distance, try grounding out the RF with something metal near the ballast.

I grounded the ballast. No difference, but check this out. If I power on the MH lights, it triggeres my house alarm. If I put my hand in between the mh lamp and the tank, it triggers the house alarm. Bizarre. One more thing for my wife to ***** at me about.

 Maybe you can find an isolation transformer of some sort. TrippLite makes some good ones. This may help with the EMI and what not that is causing these issues. :)

Are they electronic or magnetic? I am guessing magnetic. What happens if you plug it into an different outlet on a different circuit? You are getting some sort or EMI/RMI

I know it sounds funny, but as a test, what happens if wrap the ballast in tin foil and grond the foil?

Lets try to switch it with the other ballest I have

I thought it was only one ballast but it does it when I plug in either ballast. I may have to go with electronic ballasts if I can't resolve this. Wife had the alarm armed today while she was in the house. When the lights kicked on she freaked when the sirens went off.

You should change to electronic ballast before your wife beat you with the ballast.....

Have you tried different outlets on a compleate different line? I would try your garrage set a light up there and if it dosen't trip there you can just run the bulbs through.
