okay guys well here is the deal, i got to move from up top belvidere to up top stanton.

im almost debating selling everything i can of livestock, or even most everything in order to upgrade to a bigger tank and or rimless.

i know i can move the tank and let it keep going but this move wasnt really planned and now knowing i will be somewhere for a year or 2 i want to upgrade.

original plan was to move everything and find the tank to build next to it. but that isnt possible without way more equipment or 2 of stuff. of course there are corals i want to keep but dont know if i will be able to just buy a new tank and make that the new home of everything right away before the move also. any ideas or thoughts or interest????

either way i need a tank in my life, and willing to sacrifice now to have a bigger better tank in the end.

Lots to think about! What is the time frame that you have to move? Maybe pick a spot for the new tank, set up the old tank in a different area and then slowly setup the new one? Not sure but that is how I would do it if I had to move and wanted to keep my current live stock. If you need help during the move let me know!

P--if you are moving with in the city, I would hold onto everything. You are only talking about a half hour to hour move and I am confident you will have no casualties. Well, I assume the later is in you thought, the fact that you may have die off.

In my case, I was seriously debating transporting all the live stock. But in a big truck and wife following me, that is an 8-9 hour drive from LC to Phx. I was afraid of the casualties that might or will occur even with all the precautions taken. 8-9 hours is a lot of time in comparison to 1 hour. That is why I sold everything, I could not afford to lose livestock because as you know, when one dies, the rest follow very fast in a confined area

I would place everything, corals, rock, and fish in separate containers with the same water from the system. Leave some water in the tank along with the sand and move everything together. When you get your new place, add the rocks first with the same water. As well, add water from the containers with the corals and fish and let everything settle. Make some new water (leave about 5-10% out for water change), drip acclimate the fish and corals with system water, and add everything back in within a couple of hours.

I don't know your time frame of when the move is. But it is easier to setup a whole new system in the new place. If you decide to sell, sell when you get to the new place as well. This way, you won't be pressed for time.

well with help with the move i know i have that with you guys thats not the issue. this club is really great. but i cant slowly change over without buying all new stuff. half the reason i bought this skimmer and light were because they could go on a bigger tank. so id rather keep that stuff.

thinking about getting a 120 4ft, and transfering everything all at once, i dont know if that is even the right thing to do since i would need to add some sand and problably end up being half new water in a new tank.

but the problem with that is that even the 120 its not exactly perfect for what im wanting to do. id really like a rimless custom tank.

ahhhhhhhhh, haha.

You should keep the tank. With a new tank comes new (what you really wanted in the first place) equipment. If you go with a shallow tank then the big red skimmer would not look good on it. once your new tank is up and running then you could transfer what you want to keep and sell what no longer find appealing to you. This is just one way you could go about it. Let me know if you need help moving the tank

haha erick i was gonna mount the skimmer on the front of the rimless tank, and that is true but the tank could be closer to what i want for the next year or 2, and if that tank is the one i keep after that then it can always be drilled. and yeah thanks for the offer i am going to take someone up for it, and you might be it for your close proximity association haha, something needs to happen though.

Remember you already have a tank, so there is no rush in getting the new tank. Think things out with the new tank so you wont have to make too many changes in the future(changes mean money). Just let me know when you are moving.

correct and you are right, but the tank isnt the main deal to me, the equipment is, and this is why i bought this equipment, to be able to step up the tank with the same equipment.

would everything be okay if i transfer everything to a new tank all at once ??? adding maybe just sand and half new water ???

When I did my tank chage a while back, I did have some casualties (fish only) and when I installed my sump I lost all of my SPS. One thing I blame it on was not making shure that the new water was as close to my tank parameters as possible.

ugh, man this is tough, well its sell all livestock or not change a thing. either way i wont be happy in the long run.

Then if it is the "perfect" system you want, keep everything that you have right now. Let all the sps grow out and the system to mature. Then when you order your dream tank, you have all the equipment, details, fish, corals, etc. that you want and not want. This is the purpose of a "perfect" tank, is to work all the details how the system is going to look. Ones dream tank of course is different from one person to the other. My perfect/dream system is owning a house right on the beach, next to a reef, and go snorkeling/scuba diving everyday with my pets.

Believe me when I tell you that you do not want to see any equipment hanging on the back of a rimless tank. The point of a rimless, "perfect" tank is to show the system and not the equipment. The "art piece" here is the tank itself. Think it out more and if you are going to upgrade in a couple of years, let the one you have grow out and mature to be able to transfer to your new dream system. You are doing such a great job with this current system, why break it down and sell it if its working and thriving for you right now?

thanks guys, i will give it more thought, just want a bigger tank with the same equipment maybe. and if i have a bit of extra money and a move is coming up then i feel like i should act on something. but ill give it more thought, all i know is that i want to keep reefing. haha.

what about giving all your livestock to members that can sustain them knowing you will get them back when you have your new tank set up. then you don't worry about putting them in a new system, you will have time to get everything set up and running then slowly, one member at a time get your stuff back. it wouldn't have to be all at once, and with all the corals spread out you would have a higher chance of survivability.

well that might be an idea, pick the corals i definatley want to keep and see who can hold them for me for a bit, but id probably sell some coral and all the fish. ???????

i would def sell the fish. they are difficult to catch and i wouldn't want to hold one for you knowing that i would have to catch it in a month or so. but the ones you really like, or the expensive ones, i would hold onto and have someone bank them for me.

Let us know if you will start selling life stock. I still have all the stuff i bought from you. The brain is huge @@@ and growing

okay i really would want to switch over to a 120. if i dont add any new rock yet and use mine. also using my sand and maybe a bag or 2 more new live sand. realistically it should be safe enough id i use all the water i can from my tank ????? right ?????

there are fish i would really like to keep, and sell some.

there are corals i really want to keep and could sell some.

what say you, what would jesus do, ??????

I knew I'd be thrown in this thread somehow. Didn't know you valued my advice that much, Pedro! Lol jk.

I'll tell you what I'd do. I'd do what Jay said. Pick a spot for the new tank. Set up the old one as well and slowly get the new one started.

But if you start selling livestock, I may be interested in the chromis.
