My company may be sending me there for a week. Wondering if anyone has been there and the experience you had and Im looking for things to do, what to avoid, places to eat/not eat, anything to be aware of, etc.
thanks
Hmmm...wonder if 'Hotel Row' is still what it used to be Haven't been there in 24 years - when I was I used to snorkel, but that was on the AF and Navy bases. I'm sure there's an abundance of other places to snorkel. Also know that Guam is to the Japenese what Hawaii is to Americans. Very tourisy - hubbed around Adana.
Snorkeling is very good there. You'll see blue tangs, large purple clams, picosso triggers, yellow tangs, green spotted sharp nose puffers, almost anything that comes to our LFS from the Pacific you might or will see.
to be honest nothing special about guam. if you have been to hawaii than you have done whatever there is to do on guam and more. you could check out underwaterworld which is just a huge tunnel aquarium around treasure island aka hotel row and you can try piti bomb hole which is a observatory that extends out into the reef and into deep hole. maybe two lovers point. you can perhaps go scuba diving if you have a scuba license, jet ski, banana boat. in terms of food I dont really know its been over 5 years since I have been back home so not even sure they are still there.

I've been to Guam like 4 or 5 times in the last couple years for work. Definitely stay on hotel row in Agana. It's like 5 minutes from the airport. I stayed on the Marriot side as it was cheaper...but all the places over by the Hard Rock cafe is where you want to be...but you'll pay for it.
All of the hotels in hotel row are right on the beach...so lots to snorkel there. But in my view it wasn't that great. Coral is mostly beige with an occasional RBTA here and there and lots of parrot fish. You're better off snorkeling down around the observatory south of that area. There's a couple dive shops on the main drag you could stop in for more info at. I recommend GTDS (Guam Tropical Dive Station--look for the life sized dive dummy hanging on the building) or MDA (Micronesian Divers Association) as they are pretty much the best shops I've found.
If you go to Guam on a Wednesday (or is it Thurs??) there is a local fair at Chmorro Village (ask around they'll tell you where it is). GO THERE!! You will find the most unbelievable BBQ and tons of women/people. It's off the hook! There's also a little reggae restaraunt called the Jamaican Grill right across the street from the Marriott on Hotel row. Get the jerked Chicken and Ribs combo with red rice--it's the shiznit!
You'll also find what others have said already to be totally true. Guam is the playground for the Japanese. You will find huge crowds of them everywhere you go around Hotel Row. BTW, that's where Guamanians want to funnel you to keep all the tourists in one place. But if you venture out and cruise around the island you will find it's actually very beautiful. In fact, I've been diving in a couple places now...and Guam is pretty far up there. If you can do it...I would definitely dive as much as you can there. Specifically Blue Hole is pretty good. In fact a couple of pics on this thread. There's also some relatively shallow bays that have fantastic reefs. Just set it up early...if you don't have a buddy like me it can be a pain to get a dive scheduled. But it's worth it if you can!
