what to do with extra live rock?

I came up on a lot of live rock. Some of it I plan on using and some not. Right now its in a cooler and 4 five gal buckets with not much water. Should I fill the containers up with salt water or just let it sit? TIA

Fill it with SW and put a heater and powerhead in if you can. It all depends on how long it will be in the buckets, and how 'live' you want it to remain.

Give it all to me so it wont die :D

What jt said is right. And with doing that you will get rid of all the dying things on the rock and it will be ready to go in your tank. If you can get a couple 55 gallon plastic barrels, that would be even better.

I don't think you'll want to pay shipping on live rock to Oklahoma:( . Yeah, you guys are right. I'll put some water in there. I'm going to move my tank in a few weeks so that will be too long. At least the pieces i'm going to keep.

Actually I am on the lookout for more rock. I want it dry though so that there is nothing on it. I have plenty of it in my tank to seed the new one. If you want to dry it out and you are selling cheap, let me know. But, if it's still doing good, go to your local supply yard and get a couple barrels and put the rock, pump, and a light in there to keep it alive. Just remember that if it's getting dry right now, there will be a huge ammonia spike in about a week after you put it in the barrel. you will need to do weekly water changes to keep it "alive".

Chris, ive got more room in the 55g drum thats holding my other live rock if you need more holding room, it has heater and power heads in there.

You can keep live rock almost indefinately in a garbage can with a heater and powerhead. The coralline algae will continue to grow.

When I do it, I try to put the nicest stuff on top.

I had about 300 pounds of live rock in an unlit 55 tank for about 2 years. The rock went in full of hair algae and other crap. It came out covered in coralline algae and full of pods and other critters.

Best of luck,

Roy

There's about 100lbs of rock. The pieces I'm going to keep I will put in a cooler with a heater and pw. The rest is up for grabs.

Chris, i can pickup all of it and put in the big drum and Tom and Clay can pick out peices next week at the meeting if that works out. LMK

That sounds good. Tom, if you pick through it I am sure you will find what your looking for. Jeff,If you have room that could work out good. Are you going to be around this weekend?
