What to do with fish from old tank

Hi everyone, I may be getting a bit ahead of myself here, so here goes. I'm setting up a new 150, and I want to make my existing 55 gallon display tank the sump. I still have a yellow tang and a clown in this tank. When I break down the 55 they will go into a 30 gallon holding tank until the new tank cycles. I know the clown can go in as one of the first fish, my question is can the yellow tang go in as one of the first inhabitants? Or should I wait and put him in last as tangs can be territorial/aggressive?

If he cant go in early he may have to sit in the holding tank for an undetermined amount of time.

I guess what I am asking is can one of the first fish into the tank be a yellow tang?

I know this doesn't really help but, it depends. Most traditional wisdom would say that tangs should be one of the later additions. But, is it the 6 foot 150 gallon?, 150 gallons is a lot of water to share and so long as there are adequate areas that new comers can call their own without encroaching upon the tangs space then it should be fine. How big is the tang? Maybe it's small enough that territory squabbles won't be a huge deal because the tank will be large enough to accommodate it territorial needs. So, you might be fine and it may also turn into a terror, you kind of have to gauge the personality of the individual fish. Sorry I couldn't give oyu a more definitive answer.

I can tell you that tangs are very territorial and you should wait possibly depending on what other tank mates you want to add. I have a 3.5" now (2" when i got it) powder blue tang that was added 2nd to my 7ftx6ftx2ft 625g tank and when I introduced my Unicorn tang that was 5" at the time, you would of thought I put them in a 55g tank. The aggression subsided after a few days but in a smaller tank it would of persisted. I know a powder blue is not a yellow and is more aggressive but you get the gyst

Thanks guys it is the 6 foot 150 gallon, but I will probably put him in last, or maybe give him away or give him to my LFS for a credit until it's time for a tang.
