What to do with freshwater set up?

Hey Guys,

Looking to covert my sunsun 6ft tank with a customised overhead filtration system over to a FOWLR. Basically a pump pushes the water across a tray that exits via vents and over the end. It has a hood which I'd like to keep. Prefer not putting a skimmer in because the stand is segmented into tiny sections so can't put a sump in. Any suggestions for a workable set up would be appreciated.
Oh and another question my tap water is 20ppm soft do I need RO/Di unit?

Best if you buy a new system tank/sump/skimmer

You will need a large skimmer on a FOWLR, so it is very important to have a large sump.

Always use a RO/DI unit! you will have algea problems if you use normal tapwater..
