Ok i talked a litlle bit about this in my other post having to do with my anemone but i didnt want that thread getting to much off the subject...anyway, I have a 30 gallon with a Female, and male maroon clown. they were introduced at the exact same time to the tank. The female attacked the male pretty much right away, his fins are all torn up. She hasent done anything worse then that. I placed the female in a breeder net inside the tank and yesterday ( the day i got them) i let her out for a little bit to see what would happen... the same thing. Then again today i let her out and it was ok at first, but then she continued to chase the male all about the tank, the male just runs in terror and dosent stop and sesure at all... now my percs right away the male stop'd and gave into the female, i new to expect the maroons to be harder but i dont understand why the male isnt giving in? right now the female is in a critter keeper in the tank, a much bigger less hazardous enclosure where she will be able to see the male much more. Should i put her in there or the male? Or should i let them both figure things out and hope for the best? like i said the male dose nothing but try and swim away, I even put a container in there for him to escape to but he didint realize it was there or something. Any suggestions or oppions of what works best would help. And pls let me know if im doing something wrong. TY

Idk if its because of the female being behind a plastic wall but right now both of my clowns are floating by each other face to face very calmly, there sleeping. I wonder if i let her loose if she wont be so calm?

Maroons are notoriously difficult to pair up and it can take multiple tries.

Some folks have been successful by putting the male into a container in the tank, allowing the female to see him but not attack. She may become used to him and accept him, or continually try to harm him -- if she starts to accept him, you may end up with a pair. If she's relentlessly trying to get at him, after a few days I'd give it up as a lost cause and try with another male.

If it's possible - I would do the opposite of what you're doing - put the male into the critter keeper - but make some openings big enough for him to swim in and out at his leisure (if he can't already). You may have to net him or shoo him in there to get him started in there - that's how he'll know it's there and it's his safe haven. That way he can swim out to see the female when he wants - and can always retreat to safety.

This is your best bet in my opinion. I have a pair of GSM's myslef...

Good luck and keep us posted! Kim

(PS - if you do have to make openings in the critter keeper - make sure to not leave them sharp as he might injure himself)

Also - can you post pics of them?

I dont have a camera or i would. I just placed the male in the container, he dosent go back into it when he comes out he seems really dumb...so i put the top back on and im going to let him out latter. If only he would give in and not run, it seems that when he runs the female gets ****ed and chases him, before she attacks him he runs, probably because of there first meeting.
