What to do with toadstool?

I'd like to drop my toadstool down a bit in my tank. When I attempted to move him I noticed he was attached in a few places to a piece of tonga branch behind him. It's his shaft that is attached. Can I just pull him off the tonga branch? If so, is it possible I'll get new growth from anything that might remain behind on the tong branch?

Also, a small bud popped up a fee days ago at the base. Should I cut it off now or wait till it gets bigger? Will it detach itself?

You can carefully pry it off of the branch. If any of the leather is still left on the branch, it is possible it will grow on it's own.

No telling for the small bud. It may or may not detach on its own in time. As for cutting it. You can. Depending on the health of the leather and the size, you may want to wait until it heals from pulling it off of the branch before stressing it more my cutting.

Can I cut the bud off while it's still in the aquarium? If so, that may be the first thing I do. I'll wait till the bud gets a little bigger though. Eventually I'll see about detaching the big guy from the tonga branch and bring him down. No need to rush things.

Honestly, i would not try pulling it off the rock. I gently pulled one of the rock a few years ago and it withered away afterwards. You might have better luck if you want to risk it.

I pull them off rocks all the time without ill effects. It would be a common injury in nature, and if all else is well is should be fine. Of course as stated before there is always the possibility of failure- but unkikely.

I would cut it and leave the smaller pieces in the rocks, and you will end up with healthy frags and the big guy will be where u want it

This has been my experience as well. The two leathers I have done this with, it maybe should be noted they had been in my system for a long time.
