I have a yellow coris wrasse and would like to switch slowly to a barebottom but this guy needs a thick substrate, so what do the barebottom guys do? Thx for some ideas!

I haven't done this myself, but I've seen people put small plastic container in the tank filled with sand. They usually have it situated in a spot that doesn't bring attention to it, or otherwise have it stick out like a sore thumb.

+1. Sand in a small plastic tupperware container, strategically placed to avoid being an eye sore.

Just my experience. I have a bare bottom and have a yellow coris and green coris in a 135 for the last 6 months and everything good so far.

the thing is is these fish use a sand bed to find comfort and security, depriving them of a bucket of sand seems kind of cruel...JMO but id put some sand in there inside a tupperware container even like mentioned above.
