What to dose in QT.

What does everyone dose in their QT setup as a preventative measure?

The only thing I treat every new fish with is Praziquantel. Two rounds of seven days each with a large water change in between.

Where does one order this stuff? Anyone know of a local store that sells it, or is this normally ordered online?

Some LFS's carry it, I don't know about any of the chains like Petsmart. I know you can order it from DFS:

Just got done reading this thread http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1260067 about Flukes and it seems that a product named "prazipro" works very well. http://www.aquariumguys.com/prazipro.html Is this the same as you are suggesting?

Yes, I'm sorry, I meant to put that in the first post. Praziquantel is the active ingredient in Prazipro and Prazipro is more readily available than powdered praziquantel.

Cool, just got off the phone with the lfs and that have it, so I'm off I'm thinking this and a combination of hypo should be enough to safely add new fish.

I definitely prefer Cupramine to hypo. Its the only copper med I use. Many people treat prophylactically with Cupramine and use it concurrently with prazi.

Which test kit do you use to measure copper when you're using Cupramine? Also how long should I qt for if going the Cupramine/PraziPro approach, granted fish are eating looking healthy, etc.

I use the Seachem test kit. I know other people who use the Salifert.

If you are going to use Cupramine, I would treat for the recommended duration of 14 days. You can use the prazi at the same time. I do a 50% water change on day 8 when using prazi. Make sure to redose any water that you add to the tank. Its a good idea to have an observation period of at least two weeks after treatment, just in case the treatment missed anything, but then I tend to be a little overcautious. I like to wait until the fish in quarantine are eating before adding any medications.

I use cupramine once eating and add prazipro to the mix the last 7 days. I think Gwynhidwy's 2x prazi treatment is best. Clowns and other Brook suspects get a formalin dip prior to QT as well. I've used the proactive cupramine approach lately since i had big problem with ich after QT'ing passively for 1 month. Never observed a single spot on anything, no problems for 1.5yrs since last addition then go on bus trip for a week and 2/3rds of fish wiped out for my return. Managed to treat and save the rest but had to get them out of the tank (no easy task). My opinion is healthy fish can live with ich but if you have it in your tank it'll show up when there's another issue, and then it's a huge headache.

I'm reading the back of prazipro and it seems the directions say to use 1 tsp per 20g. I am using a 10g currently, can I just dose half strength, 1/2 tsp? Is there a ratio for 1g, 5g etc. I just to be sure I don't overdose.

Yes, you should use half a tsp for ten gallons of water.
