I have a purple LTA under 500watts of MH, and it does not seem to be eating. I've had it for about a month, and tried frozen shrimp with no luck. What should I feed it and how often? help!

I have not seen an anemone that color before, may be purple dye. The base looks white?

Some anemones will refuse food for over a week if aggrevated by aggressive feeding. Some like minced food, others solid peices. Make sure to thaw in tank water. I successfully feed krill, silverside peices, formula one pellets, and even flake food. The trick with the latter is to soak so that the flavor is available to taste. If it doesn't eat give is a few days before trying again, or it may learn to be defensive to your attempts. When trying new food watch for a long time to make sure it doesn't puke it up to shrimp or crabs with out your knowing.

You can also try mysis, brine, cyclopeze, baby brine, etc., but mine all like solid chunks or processed food. Try different times of day as well, morning, highest light, after lights out or right before. Good Luck.

I'm guessing that's dyed also.
May take a bit to get back to normal, and it's probably a little stressed.
Try a silverside.
I feed one a week.
I also feed fish mysis/cyclopseese/flake and the nems get some of this too.
Nice avatar!
"Best advice you've ever given me? Don't be an idiot, it changed my life"LOL!

Beautiful color, but definately not natural. I feed small pieces of thawed, raw, deveined shrimp twice a week. Size of food is about pencil eraser size to begin. Now it takes about 1/4 of a med size shrimp.

anemones will sometimes reject shrimp and accept silversides
think of it this way the anemone is not used to eating and is like a vegetarian
if you feed a vegetarian a big steak they will throw up because they cant digest that much protein the anemone is the same way get it started with small small peices of silversides soaked in selcon work it up to shrimp

Thanks everyone for your help! I'll try the silversides, and start small. The anemone in the picture has since died, not sure how. I woke up one morning with pieces of him everywhere. I think he moved in front of a low-lying powerhead.

And he did look somewhat fake-colored. do people dye anemones? Anyway, the anemone I needed help for looks much more purple. I'll try and post a picture after the weekend.

By the way, can you get silversides in minced form, or only as whole fish? I'd mince them myself, but my wife doesn't like me using our food processor for fish-related things.

I agree with davocean. Some belive that you should blend all food for anemones. This just puts more polutants in to the water column. But the peices should be about 1x-2x as big as the animal's mouth.
