What to feed candy cane coral?

Heya,

A friend of mine was moving over the weekend and offered me some candy cane coral. I couldn't refuse and took a frag. It looks beautiful. I was told to feed it mysis shrimp? I can't remember if it was or wasn't that. Also, my friend said to use a turkey baster to squirt the mysis shrimp in when the coral's tentacles are exposed? Did I get it right?

Oh yes, and, what telltale signs can I look for to see if the coral will make it?

i feed mine light :D when they are doing good, their fleshy part will be inflated, they will have some nice color as well. if you do try to feed them, mysis shrimp will work but you will have to feed them at night. their tenticles rarely come out during the day.

i feed my candy cane at night, power heads off when i target feed my corals. usually off for 30 mins. but night time is the best time to feed cause their sweeper tentcles will be out.

If you can get your hands on some Cyclopeeze, I would try feeding it with a turkey baster. The tentacles on mine come out not only at night, but also when they 'smell' the food that I feed to the fish. Do it with the pumps off as stated above.

Agree with the above. I feed mine whole mysis shrimp, which I buy in frozen cubes.

They may be able to live with just light, but will definately grow faster and divide more with regular feedings. I have never seen sweeper tentacles, but they do extend feeders (about 1/2" long) in the evenings or a little while after I feed my fish. The food should stick pretty easily to these tentacles and the will pull they food in.

I feed each polyp of mine a shrimp about twice a week.
