what to look for in new live rock

What should I be looking for that shouldn t be in my tank when getting new live rock. I know theres all kind of cool things in there. Whats bad. Mantis shrimp hair alge. Can I leave that stuff alone. Or do I have to take them out. Also will there be alot of bad stuff in the live rock. New to the hobby. I feel kinda dumb asking all these questions. LFS are no help. You guys are a big help

I would recommend removing any hair algae. As for hitch hikers you probably won't find them until your tank is up and running. Most from what I have read are fine. I would get rid of a mantis as I have read that they will prey on fish. Most people seem happy with their hitch hikers and look forward to new creatures as they show up.
