What type of Algae is this?

What type is it and how do I stop it? Why don't we have a Thread/Sticky or section with types of Algae pictures of the different kinds and info on combating it?

Looks like Green hair algae, on top of some dinos ... I could be wrong though .


in general, all algae consume no3 and po4 in water and use the light to grow. they take up nutritions as they grow, so they arent that bad but a sign that you have too much nutrition (no3 and po4) in system.

cut back on feeding, make sure the water used is RO/DI with TDS zero. run GFO to lower Po4, and siphon out the algae as much as possible.

We don't have a sticky because we have a whole forum dedicated to macro algae.

But I get what he's saying. We should have a sticky for ID'ing various microalgaes and the most up-to-date ways of combatting them.
