What type of Clownfish are these?

I have had these guys for 2.5 years now and was just curious what kind they are. My daughter named them Tom and Jerry but we had to alter Jerry's name to Gerri cause she laid some eggs yesterday. Is she an Onyx Clownfish?

It's hard to tell. They're both Ocellaris for sure because they have 11 dorsal spines and their irises are darker than perc's are. If you want to know what type of Occy, I would say Tom is a regular Occy and Gerri might be either a Mocha Clown (Black Ocellaris x Orange Ocellaris) or an SA Fancy Ocellaris. Where did you get Gerri from and was there a label on the tank that said SA?

Here's my SA Fancy Ocellaris female...

And here's a Mocha Clown pair...

Thanks for the response. It's been over 2 years now so I don't remember what it said on the tank when we bought them. I do know that they were in different tanks cause my daughter picked them out and the LFS guy said we should take 2 from the same tank and she did not want to do that. Anyway, Gerri is not dark like the Mocha so I would lean towards the SA Fancy Ocellaris. I have not heard of this kind before. What are they a mix of? They just laid eggs yesterday, so my daughter got really excited and has been asking me lots questions since :-)

With all the selectively captive bred fish, it's getting more and more difficult to distinguish between ocellaris and percula. Five years ago it was no problem at all.

Tom is an ocellaris. There's no doubt about that. Gerri has some traits that resemble percula, like the short dorsal fin, but I would consider her to be an ocellaris as well. So, IMHO, no. She is not an onyx. That doesn't imply that she isn't a beautiful fish though.

Thanks for the explaination EC. I appreciate it. We really love her coloring and were just curious so we could identify her properly. We wondered what her babies might look like? Here are some pics we took yesterday of their first clutch.

I would definitely say those are ocellaris. That would be a huge clutch for the first batch of percula eggs. Percula typically have smaller clutches than ocellaris.

Thanks again EC and Waffle for helping to identify them. I am going to close this thread and start a breeding one. I hope you two can help us on our way...

SA Fancy Ocellaris are just Ocellaris that have been selectively bred to have more black. There was no Black Ocellaris in the breeding line on the SA Fancy Ocellaris, so more than likely there will be some regular Ocellaris babies, some SA Fancy Ocellaris babies (if that in fact what you have), and some mix babies.

Here's a video of my pair of SA Fancies...
