What Vortech is needed for my new display?

I have a new display getting plumbed into my current system.

48"x24"x16". 80 gal. Deep Blue. It will be bare bottom.

Almost all acros with very little LR.

Who has had experience with these and can make a recommendation?

Which model and how many?

Will an MP40 be sufficient or will two be needed. Will an MP60 be required?

The tank is pretty shallow and I do not want overkill. At the same time, I do not want to go small and have to work on maximum setting to only get the job partially done.

I have never owned this brand and I am not familiar with the capacity of each model. I am also skeptical of manufacturer recommendations [with LED fixtures you usually need double the manufacturer recommendation] and salesman recommendations [I usually need half what they want to sell me].

I know this is a popular product and I am sure many reefers here have solid opinions based on personal experience.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks ,

Kevin

I would rather have 2 MP40's to alternate water current

This was my first idea, but I realized that I am not really aware of the volume of water that each model can do.

Thank you for the input.

I would reconsider my decision to get a Vortech after seeing many pictures of rusty looking wet sides around the base of ceramic shaft.

The rust was an issue at one time in an older model but as far as I know the defect has been fixed. Haven't seen any threads in a long time with that issue. I have not had the issue in my MP10's and they are 3 years old

Hey Kevin, I'm local to you and have the same dimension tank in my garage as a frag tank if you want to check it out. MP40 is perfect for a tank of this depth. I run MP60's on my display but they would blow the water out of this tank. With little LR, two mp40s would be perfect

That is great info to hear and yes I would enjoy seeing how your system runs. I will PM you when I get back in the office.
Thank you,

Kevin.
