What went wrong?

Today, my peppermint shrimp died. I've had him for about 4-5 weeks in my 2 month old tank (cycled with live rock/sand - little to no actual "cycle").

Water params were good (0 on ammonia, nitrites, 0-5 on nitrates, phosphates were just under .05). Salinity = 1.025, temp was usually around 80-81 degrees.

He ate well... acted fairly normal --- with the exception of his molting. He molted 3 times since I got him - always a couple days after my weekly water changes (and I was sure to make sure the temp and salinity were a match with the tank - 10% change).

He lived with 2 occ clowns, 1 green clown goby, 2 trochus snails & 7 blue leg hermits.

I'm sure his molting was unusually frequent....

Does anyone have any idea what could have gone wrong?

you didn't happen to get him from the store we spoke privately about, did you???? if so, there is your answer...

if you got the peppermint for aiptasia control, think about a green file fish instead.

Possibly end of normal lifespan?
Shrimps generally dont live that long , 2-3 years typically

you didn't happen to get him from the store we spoke privately about, did you???? if so, there is your answer...

if you got the peppermint for aiptasia control, think about a green file fish instead.

I actually got him from AT! I do think file fish are pretty neat, but my tank is only 29 gal so I have to pick and choose which fish I get (I really would like to put fish in there that will live out their (hopefully LONG) lives with me)

I wish that were the case, but I don't think so When I got him, there were other peps in there with him that were far larger.

Makes me feel bad
