what will clowns host

Mine likes my candy cane coral, but sometimes will stick it's head in the RBTA... My other clowns host my power head...

I've seen them host inside a huge clam in Sanjay's Joshi's Penn State tank. They will host hammers, frogspawns, anthelia, xenia, leathers, goniporas and other corals with long soft polyps. Elephant ear/purse string mushrooms... bad idea.

I have them hosted to nothing...mine like the backwall next to the overflow....it's where they lay their eggs.

in my old tank I had an false perc that was inseparable from frogspawn.

thanks for the info..... looking at what i should get for my two occellaris.

I didnt like the fact that anenomes move so i was thinking maybe a hammer or frog spawn..

^ Happy anemones dont move.

Mine host my branching hammers. I have 7 bubble tips in that tank but they prefer the hammer for some reason. Oh well at least now when them nems split they wont get stressed out from clown hosting.

Can we make something clear here? I thought it was the anemone that hosts the clownfish, not the other way around. If you think about it, the clownfish is the guest, and the anemone is the host. Am I crazy? It probably sounds better to say, "my clownfish is hosting X."

Anyhow, I've seen clownfish inside GSP, feather dusters, flowerpot corals, and once rubbing up on my thermometer.

I think the reason why people make this mistake is because they personify it too much. We think of the nem as the "home". You don't consider your Colonial to host the Superbowl Party, do you?

Heh, I'm just kidding but it does make some sense. The clowns will be your hosts tonight over at the Entamaceas' :)

100% correct.

I gave up trying to change it. If I kept at it I'd probably have 4000 posts now...:lmao:

True... but placing them exactly right is a tall order. 99 times out of 100 they will move to a location of their choosing. Not yours.

If one wishes to keep an anemone and cares about the corals in his tank the best he can do is get a sand dwelling species. At least then you can predict where it won't go.

I have one occ. clown has hosted some mushrooms, a toadstool leather, and some frogspawn...now he swims between them all and gives them each they own attention lol
