If I plugged in a 250 lamp on a 175 watt ballast? I'm asking because I have a bulb and don't know what it is. I assume it would be "safer" that if it was a 175 watt bulb hooked up to a 250 watt ballast. Thoughts?

I'd guess it would be dim or not fire at all, but that is a huge guess.

If you plugged a 175W bulb into a 250W ballast, I'd expect it to burn out immediatley.


This is from a guy with marginal electrinics knowledge who has never used a MH fixture. Keep that in mind
