Im sure some of you have seen my thread about my clowns I was extremely excited when I got them so I posted a bunch of pictures. Now im wondering what their offspring would be called if they have one of the fancy names. I have a black ice (ocellaris) and a picasso (percula) they have appeared very compatible so far and im hoping for them to breed in the future

Probably something similar to SnowOnyx clowns.

I like designer clowns...tank raised clowns in general. Unfortunately a vast majority of them is being sold way below breed standards and that's what I have a big problem with. Not hybridization but flawed breeding in general.

Let's see about that 10 years from now...

Are you one of those people who only have purebred dogs? Do you dislike muts too? I will not see it your way. 10 years from now I highly doubt ill be so narrow minded.

We all know alot of people dislike mixing clowns and polluting the gene pool but I dont and wont see it as a pollutant.

I just do not understand and I guess I never will. I have already read that long thread you and a few others were in on. Yall talked so poorly about mixing clowns. Gave many reasons why its bad. I still do not agree.

But thanks for your opinion.

Then stay away from ORA clowns - I've never seen worse degenerated clownfish than those they ship out.

I wouldn't have the problems with designer clowns I have if all their offspring would look like intended or if they would at least cull the ones that don't. Unfortunately only a certain percentage looks like the breeder wants them. Another percentage looks like a mix of the ideal and normal and the rest looks like normal clowns. All of these are going to be sold and in the end you can't tell if the normal looking are actually normal purebred clowns or just designer castoffs. :mad2: :angryfire:

That's why I rather spend the extra money to get wild clowns for breeding and deal with brook and all the other pests that come bundled with them.

Hybridization itself is not abnormal in the wild in general. We know that certain centropyge Angels and acanthurus tangs hybridize in the wild. Thus I don't look down on hybrids. I get that many people are "purists" and would rather not keep designer clowns. That's perfectly fine and understandable.

Can we not go down this path every single time a topic like this arises? In the end it is just differing opinions. Don't be trolls. Be hobbyists.

Unfortunately it isn't just a matter of opinion.
I wouldn't have a problem with designer clowns if it wouldn't directly affect me.
But these days you can't buy a true percula without wondering if it is really a true percula or just a designer castoff sold under that label.
As far as I know ORA sells them correctly labeled to stores (don't know about the other commercial hatcheries, let alone hobby breeders) but there uneducated or outright lying staff may sell them as whatever they like.

To make matters worse designer clowns are now even bred in the origin locations of clownfish, so even on imports you can't be sure anymore.

It is this mudding up the waters that upsets me.

I actually do agree with a lot of that, but it is off-topic. The topic is the identification of a name of a hybrid, so leave it at that. If you have things to say that is not directly relevant to the topic, make a separate topic to discuss it.

Bali AquaRich has produced some nice looking Picasnow, but darker.
Somone please kick out the "purists" or whatever that have derailed the thread please?
