What would the price be...

Mucho do you have any ideas where I can find the pricing then?

I'm not trying to solicit or sell frags, I don't even own these paly's, and if I am not licensed to sell. I was curious on the average cost to know If I was going to get ripped off.

Jarred is absolutely correct, $ 2 or $ 3 a polyp max. If you pay any more than that, you're only helping to make someone rich. That's my opinion, and again, I agree 100% with Jarred.

Its rather rare to come across 2 dollar polyps anywhere, and I don't think I've ever seen any LE coral sell in that price range, and I don't think I ever will.

Unfortunately the lucky few with high-end corals name the prices on them. If I could name my own prices of 2 and three dollars it would be great! Sadly that's not how the world works.

That would be comparable to going into a Jewelry store, looking at a 2ct. diamond that's D in color and has a clarity of IF and saying.... Eh, I'll give you 100 dollars for it. BAHAHAHA

These guys are just playing with you because they think naming corals is silly. If you buy an unnamed wild zoa rock then you will be getting random zoos at 2 or 3 dollars pp like they say. personally I don't mind paying $25 pp for a couple choice zoos that I intend to grow out but to each his own.

PS. If you wait long enough most LE zoos will be 2 or 3 dollars pp. Like you pointed out supply and demand.

Unfortunately, you're right. A lot of places are doing the whole chop shop approach - churning out the overpriced 2-3 polyps frags.

Do you have a local reef club? The best way perhaps to get reasonably priced frags is to link up with a reefing buddy and swap them as you go along. That way you both benefit. Even better if there are a few of you.

Plus some of the mail order places sell reasonably large colonies which you can buy together and end up with 15 polyps colonies, even after fragging a few times.

Thanks guys, the 8 polyp colony is 130 dollars so it figures out to 16 dollars PP and is from a person in my local reef club.

I figured from there it would be a nice way to trade for other named Zoa's, Paly's, and high end chalices. I just wanted to make sure 16 pp was a good price. Currently the most expensive piece in my tank was 25 dollars, which is considerably smaller than 140. lol

This is very very funny, I will give you something to think about. If a coral was collected from the wild and then sold to you it most likely is "rare" because you were able to purchase it. For example, you don't see people owning a florida panther as a pet because they are truly a rare animal. So most likely will not be able to purchase a real rare coral. Do you really think that the guy that gave that certain zoa that name is the only person that got them from the supplier?!?!?! If you do believe that then you are very gullible and I have unicorn in my back yard that I will sell to you for $1,000,000.

P.s. That's a steal if you do buy it from me!

No, it would be comparable to going into a jewelry store, picking up a cubic zirconia, offering $10 and getting told that "cubic zirconia ? no, that's actually the Esther's Jewelry Eternal Love Gemerald and costs as much as a diamond." You can believe it's as rare as a diamond all you want, it'll still a run of the mill cubic zirconia that some greedy douche slapped a name onto to scam people.

I feel this thread spiraling into another one of THOSE threads, Not that it was gonna go very far in the first place...Mods please close!

So owning less common corals is a no no?

I guess I wouldn't want a fellow reefer gawking awkwardly over corals that his tank doesn't have because his LFS doesn't sell them, and they aren't in the mainstream yet. Maybe some green and red zoa's will be the defining corals in my tank.

MODS do feel free to close the thread, I've acquired the information I needed from Ape and Gill (thanks you too!)

Hmmm, not sure why you thought I was playing with the OP. He ask a serious question soliciting opinions and I gave him my own and I was very serious as well. If you prefer paying $ 25 per polyp, that is your right. However, a fellow reefer just purchased all 6 of the frags below for $ 99.00 including free shipping. I counted well over 90 polyps and it appears they all have names. I've also listed his actual text from his post.

"Reef oddyssey 6 for 99 shipped deal he has Frags all 16+ polyps each. Not bad deal fruitloops has 34 counting few babies la lakers has 28 with the babies cherry bombs 32 so healthy Frags for the market today"

So you see, it's really not rare at all. As I said, you just have to look around my friend. I think the purchase above was about a dollar per polyp. Wow !!! However, if someone wants to pay $5, $10, $20, $50 or $ 100 pp, they have every right to do so.

PS. Also check with Coral Props, one of our sponsors, for some great deals. I refer reefers to them all the time.

Honestly, it's not rare at all to find just about anything you want by just taking your time my friend and looking around. Also, as mentioned above, check with local reefers and local clubs for some great buys. Also, see my post above.

There's no such thing as LE, it's LS, Limited Supply.

Lucky few ? Trust me, it's not luck sir.

Good luck with your search and your purchase, I was only trying to help.

I'm happy I came across this thread. I was about to purchase some single head zoas for over $40+. Don't know where my common sense went.

OP, if you really want it, go ahead and buy it. Good Luck. But make sure they are the ones you're looking for. There are so many look alikes and similiar zoas out there

$40+ ? I'm glad you stopped by as well. It's no reflection on your common sense, you just got caught up in the hype. Please share what you've learn here with others. Thanks.

About 2 weeks ago, a spoke with a newbie who was about to do the same thing, I directed him to a 15 polyp frag for half the price of his potential 1 polyp purchase. It saved him $ 20 and he got 14 more polyps which were healthier and he was shocked by what I showed him. They are all out there, you just have to look. This is the only true reason I was trying to help the OP.
