What would you do?

So today I was in my Lfs and they have a baby bamboo shark about 8 inches long. I was thinking... I'm getting a 180 in a week and was wondering once it cycles if I can keep it for a while until I can find a suitable home for it. The fish store will sell it to anyone so I don't want it to go in a 55 gallon tank. Thanks

Don't buy it. Just leave it at the store. Your logic for wanting the fish is flawed and I really hate to break it to you, but a person with a 55g tank is more equipped than you are currently because you don't even have the tank set up yet.

Unfortunately you are going to have to get used to the notion that LFS are a business. You can't go about buying up everything with the mentality "I can take better care of it than the next guy". You're just encouraging them to buy more of whatever it is, so they can sell more of it.

That's the biggest issue. It also comes up when people want to "rescue" a fish that a store isn't handling right. If you buy it, it demonstrates demand, so the store will order more, and that person with the 55g is going to get one anyway.

good point
wait till you can properly take care of it
if thats the fish you want there will be one when you are ready for it

If I wanted a shark for a 180 I would go for a marbled cat shark anyways because it only gets 2 ft instead of the 40 inches... And I would much rather have a cortez stingray.
