What would you get?

I'm trying to decide which clowns to put in my tank. My wife really likes the back false percs. I want some onyx ones, but haven't found any that are affordable. However, I currently have a dark red almost maroon clown.

and I found another tomato, that is red, with a dark misbar that might be coming in. That I want to buy.

What would you do?

Well my wife and I had that dilemma. She wanted to the black and white. I wanted regular percs. We had those species before. Anyways, I argued, she argued.

What I got out of it:

An excuse to set up another tank.

Your going to have to get the tomato clown out though, which will be a chore. Then find a home. It would be easier, less hassle to try and find her a mate.

It all comes down to personal opinion really. What reason(s) did you buy the tomato?

Edit: We have a pair of true percs atm. hahaha

Well, no money for another setup right now. Sadly, getting the tomato out won't be a big issue. Nothing is fully established so we can move rocks around or setup a fish trap, I made my decision. And found a rather unique tomato that is really dark like the one I have now. And significantly smaller, check him out.

If and when I have a couple hundred laying around, I'll get those onyx but until then these will do.

FWIW I've always loved tomato clowns...if I didn't already have a pair of Ocellaris that I can't bring myself to part with, it would be Frenatus going into my new set up

I have about a hundred True Perc Babies that are about 6 months old. Most have two strips and the third is coming in. Here is a shot of mom and dad.

As you can see the Parents are "Onyx" or at least partly onyx? These would be affordable.

My Percs host in that Pink Fuzzy Sinularia. That picture is probably more than a year old. The Sinularia is about 14" in diameter now.

I'm not a genetics expert so you may be correct regarding the development of the black coloration in the offspring that my True Percs are producing. I do know this: There is another guy out here in the Seattle area that has raised Onyx True Percs. Every one of the babies that I have seen at the 1.5 year mark has all of the black markings that my adults have. When he sold them at 6 months old they looked exactly like mine do with mostly orange and the stripes still forming.

Interestingly I got one baby that is "Picaso" or "Snowflake" or whatever they call it when he has a whole bunch of extra white markings. Right now his first strip is connected solidly to his second strip which is still forming. He is 1 is a 160 literally. That is what I understand a recessive gene produces. I'll try and snap a pic today, He is really cute.

Not the change the subject of the original topic but do you have a recent pic of that Sinularia? I have a frag that's similar if not the same that I got from a fellow reefer here. I love the fluffy texture of it. I can't wait until it grows huge.

OK I took this Pic today of the True Percs in the same sinularia. The female on the left is about 3 inches long to give you an idea of how large it is now. I cut frags off it regularly too. In fact it is hitting the front glass in this picture, I guess that I need to do some more cutting.

TheOtherReefer: Are you kidding? I can't grow that stuff fast enough. I have a couple of LFS that sell every Xenia that I bring them. The one that you see in that pic is the Red Sea Pom Pom that grows in just a single stock. Fast Pulsing and Very Popular!
