What would you pay for a clam?

I spent $325 for a very large Gigas. I'd spend the same for a nice blue squammie.
I have a LFS buddy that has been on ORA's waiting list for a black/white maxima for about a year now, it's mine when it comes in and I think it's going to cost me $200 and he's not gouging me, I think they just cost that much from ORA.

And the price of such specimens will stay that way unless someone can figure out how to breed clam in U.S. soil.

That would not be cost effective because Tridacnids come from 3rd world countries and it is cheap but after shipping expense, permits and of course the middle man then you pay the higher prices.

Your larger maxima that we use to see a few years ago are not being exported due to, not many people collecting them from the wild.

Also when paying those high prices, consider the supply and demand.

There has got to be a way,all of the clam lovers out there need to put are heads together and figure it out. How's it going Barry I used to love buying your clams but I live in the midwest and on the days you open by the time I get home at 6PM central time all the best ones are gone plus I never thought I would see you put a name your price on clams on your site. Dr. Mac at pacific east gets some decent looking clams from Viet-nam.

I just started a new tank after not having one for about 4 yr. (I was breeding and selling panther and veiled chameleon's for a while) hopefully in a few month's I can beat some of those early buyers to the goodstuff

Very nice, how long is shipping to U.S. Do you ever get black and white maximas=price in U.S. How about blue sqaumosa=price Surely they would be 2-3 days in transit

there is some talk about "figuring out" how to propagate these ornamental clams on US turf in an aquaculture facility. This is already happening to some degree correct?
My question is what about clam growers in the Massechussetts region. sorry MA about the spelling. I thought on the east coast there are plenty of facilities producing clams for dinner. These facilities obviously have the knowledge, and infastructure to produce ornamental clams. They may just not realize the overwhelming potential for profit in our market. With a little time they could be selectively breeding some of the best clams in the world! Am i way off base, anyone work in these facilities or do they not exist. someone elaborate or comment, where am i misguided.

I have spent $500 for a teardrop and sold that same one a year later for $700ish. I was a nervous wreck fed exing that bad boy to Texas. He kept it alive for a couple months, then it died. I was sad.

funny Barry, I'm sure you can remember when blue dot squammys were a dime a dozen and I think I paid about $50 for mine, he was about 6 inches...and gorgeous.
