Thanks for putting the pic up. I have no idea where this fish came from, I didn't buy him. I've looked all over the web and can't find anything that even closely resembles him. He's about 4.5" long now.

All of my rock "almost 500lb" is Fijian or Indonesian. It's been in there for years. All of the fish that I've put in the tank are accounted for, and he's an extra one. I've been seeing him the last few years, so I figured he came with the rock when he was small. He's a great fish, a lot of personality, and he doesn't bother anything or anyone. I've just been observing him for a while, wondering what kind of wrasse, so I figured I'd finally ask the experts.

LOL, all of the corals in the tank started out as frags, so unless he was really tiny, he had to come with the rock.

He's definitely a wrasse, but what kind is the mystery.

Female flame wrasse maybe? Hard to tell if the light is affecting the colors.

Well, I think I may have found what he is. I found a picture of a Yellow Head Wrasse "Caribbean" in it's initial phase, and it looks very similar. Mine is a lot more colorful than the pic, and there are only a very few pics on the internet of this fish in that phase. Thinking back, I do remember seeing a little fish that resembled a mix between a silverside and a wrasse swimming around, but I didn't really give it much thought. So it looks like Albano was correct, it is a Caribbean wrasse. I just have no idea how he got in there. Maybe when the rock was at the wholesaler he became a hitch hiker. If that's the only "bad" thing that came with the rock, I think I got lucky!

It's head is really purple, and it's body is yellow. It looks kind of washed out in the pic, but it's pretty bright.

I've had gobies, wrasses, and even an octopus come in live rock shipments...rock was shipped with only wet newspaper around it!... Don't be surprised that some cheaper Florida rock is sometimes mixed in with more expensive Pacific rock by the sellers!
