Ok, so I am seriously considering getting a canister to use with my 24DX. I am aware that with some of the traditional filter media types (sponges, filter floss ect) these types of filters can become nitrate traps. My reason for using this is due to space constraints. My space in my rear chambers will soon be completely consumed. At the moment my first chamber has all of my mechanical filtration in it. I have Chemipure and Purapad in there. It will be replaced shortly with a skimmer. My second chamber is my refugium and my third chamber contains my powerheads for the chiller and returns. I was thinking about using this filter as a way to increase my water volume and to house my mechanical filtration. I will probably put the Purapad, Chemipure and possibly some rock rubble in the three chambers. The filter will be housed in the cabinet out of site and I might even plumb it in line with the chiller.
What are your takes on this? If you are a proponent of this, what type of canister do you recommend? What do you think of the media selection? Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.
