Anyone keep a pistol shrimp with their yellow watchman?
Yep. Great for the sand bed. Adds interest.

so exactly why do they sift sand?

To make a safe house for themselves when predators approach.

hm mine doesnt ever sift sand, but he's probably the most aggressive one in the tank during feeding. but then again his only competition is a royal gramma and false. perc. he puffs himself up and lunges at them if they get too close to where he thinks the food is going.

well i just got mine interesting the lfs had a pair they had been there awhile now there together so i got both and when i put them in the clarkiis bit at them but did no harm no everythings calmed down and theyre in whole in the live rock together nice fish hope the clarkiis dont kill them

Don't they do this to eat detritus in the sand? Most sand sifters do. That would be very convenient.

Now that I put the otherone in the tank the yellow one shows him/herself. They are next door neighbors and don't get along for the moment. Maybe I'll throw in a shrimp and see who fights over it.

I dont really think it matters, just as long as you have a SB. I have 70% aragonite & 30% crushed coral(3-4inch SB), but the crushed coral is for my Jawfish....

Steve :)

Mine is the king of my tank (same size as yours) so it bosses around all the other fish... but they are pretty laid back so thats not sayin much, although he keeps nippin at my new mandarin
