i was looking at some websites and it had something called a pearly eyed clarkii. can someone tell me what this is and if you have one show a pic of it.

is it like a birth defect, and does it hurt the fishes eyesight. i never saw any pics of what it looked like

It is a genetic trait. It is not harmful to the fish, it is cosmetic and typically on the top portion of the eye ring.

From ORA's site: http://www.orafarm.com/clownfish_species.html

"On rare occasions, Clarkii Clownfish will develop an interesting mutation in their eyes. A pale blue crescent appears in the upper part of the iris in the eye. "

Somewhere on here there is a link to a Juv. Chryopterus with one Pearly Eye.

Here is an old (bad) pic of one that showed-up in a batch of clarkii. One or both eyes have a turquoise/pearl crescent at the top/front of the eye:

Matt, is the pearl eye clarkii a "standard" genetic trait or is it more like a random genetic trait (i.e. 1 in 500 or always inherited)?

I know it used to be bred by ORA but they no longer produce that.

here are pictures of mine:

The marking tended to get smaller with age and sometimes disappeared completely.

at.

I had an incidence of 10 in 300. Bright markings on both eyes in less often.
