whats goin on with my tank

today i looked at my tank and my rbta is very smal and my xiana is like gone the hands are curled up so i ran some test and this is what i came up with ph 7.8 very low and im not sure why. is there any way to raise with stuff laying around the house all pet stores closed? i have ph up for a pool im guesing no on that but it is a option. my nitrate is at 10ppm, nitrite 0ppm, ammoinia 0ppmso everything but my ph i think is ok but let me know what could couse this and how to fix if possible with out any solutions from a pet store. thanks also my salt is a 1.027

your sg is on the high side but not to bad. pH can be raised with baking soda but will also raise your alk. be careful not to add alot. you may also be able to get some pickling lime at the grocery store and drip kalk into the tank to raise it also.

7.8 isn't bad, I wouldn't do anything too drastic in order to raise it. Do you have test kits for Ca and Alk? Baking soda will lower the PH unless you bake it prior. If Alk is low, Raising it should help to "maintain" the PH at a higher level. My guess would be that the PH it's running on the lower end from CO2 in the house. Maybe open up some windows and aggitate the water surface with a powerhead.

I wouldn't add anything without at least testing the Alk first.

Rather than adding anything new, I'd just go the easy route and water-change the hell out of that thing.

PH is not that out of wack. My softies would go through stages like this as well, but they always looked good a day or 2 after. I would make sure you are testing the Sa with a refractometer that is calibrated, and as long as the rest of your parameters are good, sit back and watch.

A 7.8 pH will not kill xenia or a RBTA. You have something else going on. Also remember that BTAs will close up and look like crap when they crap... This could be the case. Xenia on the other hand dies and flourishes for no known reason... Take a deep breath, run some water for a water change, add an airstone to the sump or aggitate the surface with a powerhead ( you can use the venturi on the powerhead to inject air also), call a friend with Calcium and Alkalinity test kits, and take everything one step at a time. If you are flippin out just do a water change as it can't hurt.

Worst case senario is you are noticing heavy metal poisoning... Odds aren't great for this, but a copper test would be in order.

If you're using water from a dehumidifier it could be metal poisoning. I believe I read somewhere that the water from a dehumidifier is not good.

the dehumidifier guy isn't the guy who started the thread. But i do agree that it's a bad idea to use dehumidifier water... Jbass, i thought you had an ro/di unit.
