Whats going on with this devil's hand leather?

So I have a devil's hand leather thats been doing fine in my tank for a few months now. Over the past week, the two of the "fingers" of the devil's hand started to turn white at the base, and the tissue appears to be deteriorating. I thought perhaps this is what they do to reproduce, a small "finger" breaks off and becomes a new leather. I'm probably not correct but figured I'd run it by the group and see. Let me know what is going on.

I have a toadstool leather that has been doing the same thing over the last few weeks. There is one chunk that is now sitting on the sand bed with lovely polyp extensions. Another piece is going to break off soon and I would be surprised if that piece did not do well.

I think my coral is just propagating and would suspect yours is too. The parent colony does look kind of funny now...

IME they tend to split like that periodically. A leather was my first coral ever 8 years ago and despite trying to permanently remove it from my tank I still find new growth. I typically let it grow out some then trade for some sps or zoas.
