A reef tank! I'm officially out.

After listening to people at work telling stories of actual vacations (longer than a few days), work obligations, and looking at what I money and time I spent every month on the tank and what that could go to (got 2 kids, one in college and one that will be going in 4 years). I figured the time was right to get out. Especially when the tank was more stress than fun lately. Like having to take off work for floods, and livestock mishaps . Everything's pretty much gone, so no for sale threads . Later will probably set up a fresh water tank.

Fish room is really, really quiet right now.

Ouch I agree on the vacation part sucks fish get pricey especially some that you buy is more of a gamble .

Tina - been there and done that. I got to the point where I was not enjoying the tank because of the amount of work and the cost of maintaining a 120G tank.

I finally set up a much smaller tank (Solana 34G). No sump - just a compartment in back. Skimmer is not running because I am going to do more frequent water changes. I have an auto top off (currently with only two float switches, but I plan on putting in 4 switches for redundancy). I also plan on making an auto water change system. LED light (won at the MARS swap) to keep the electric bill down. Easy to keep corals. I think those changes will allow me to enjoy the aquarium. When I take a vacation, I will just have the neighbor's kid come over and feed the animals once a day.

Oh - and my Solana stand serves a second purposes as the alcohol cabinet.

Anyway - good luck with your future endeavor.

I've thought about getting out many times when things go bad... then when things get better i just stay in... haha... but yeah, reefing is pretty time consuming and expensive... My tank is a money pit when i think of all the money i put into this thing... fish food, electricity, salt for weekly water changes, supplements(2 part, zeo, etc), new frags... i'm spending hundreds each month on my tank... pretty discouraging when i think about it but i just can't manage to stop... lol.. Good luck on your vacation...

Well, didn't get the BMW... but did get...

A Rav4 EV! (electric vehicle) It's a Tesla S drive train with a Rav4 skin . This gal is mean and green! (just no long road trips, LOL). The instrument panel even goes from blue to red when switched to sport mode . Couldn't pass up all the incentives, and really liked the previous EV version.
