Whats on my live rock?

I just picked up some live rock today and there is some stringy things on it, and some purple/greyish "bubbles" on a piece of rock. The "bubbles" are squishy to the touch. That is the best picture I could get of it. Anybody know what it is? Thanks for any help.

I don't know about the stringy things but the bubbles look like sponges to me. I'd scrub it all off before using it.

Doh. Of course. Why didn't I think of that... That rock must have been upside down sheltered from the light.

Now why would you go and do something like that?

Sponges are good, so are feather dusters. Don't scrub anything.

sponges are filter feeders, and they dont move around, they are fine to leave on there.

some people actually use large dark spaces with low flow(like en enclosed barrel) to grow large amounts of sponges to help the filtration of their systems.
